Our Story

Red Salmon Arts is a grassroots cultural arts organization with a rich thirty-year history of serving the indigenous neighborhoods of Austin. Founded by raúlrsalinas, a prominent figure in Chicano literature and the prisoner-rights movement, RSA is dedicated to nurturing emerging writers and promoting Chicana/o/x/Latina/o/x/Native American literature. Through cultural exchange and a commitment to social justice, RSA plays a vital role in retrieving and celebrating the cultural heritage of these communities.

Impact

Red Salmon Arts sponsors transformative literary projects like Save Our Youth (SOY), which focuses on empowering 'hard to reach' young people in youth correctional facilities. By fostering cultural knowledge and pride, SOY redirects negative behaviors into positive outlets through engaging workshops led by resident authors and artists. These initiatives help participants build self-esteem and develop essential communication and conflict resolution skills.
