Our Story

Real Food for Kids was founded by concerned parents in Fairfax County, Virginia, who recognized the alarming trends in childhood obesity and the disconnect between cafeteria offerings and children's health. Since 2010, this organization has successfully advocated for positive changes in school food policies, uniting diverse stakeholders to overcome barriers to change. By building grassroots support, Real Food for Kids has garnered the attention of key decision-makers, including school administrators and policymakers.

Our Impact

Real Food for Kids is dedicated to increasing access to healthful foods in school systems and educating students and families about healthier lifestyle choices. The advocacy efforts have led to the installation of 'Real Food for Kids' salad bars in Fairfax County elementary schools, benefiting nearly 100,000 students. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, over 10,000 meals were provided in just the first month following school closures.
