Our Story

Founded in 2019 by Angela Marks, Reading Allowed is dedicated to the belief that reading is a right, not a privilege. This nonprofit organization provides high-quality literacy instruction to struggling readers, ensuring that financial circumstances do not hinder access to essential educational resources. Initially offering individualized tutoring services on a sliding scale, Reading Allowed has expanded its mission to collaborate with schools and community organizations, identifying at-risk children and delivering timely interventions.

Reading Allowed is making a significant difference in the Philadelphia area, impacting over 350 individuals of all ages. With a team of more than 70 rigorously trained instructors, the organization partners with underserved communities to provide structured literacy tutoring and professional development opportunities, raising awareness of the literacy crisis.
