Our Story
The Readers Are Leaders program, founded by educator Wendell Byrd, began in 2003 as a partnership between South Lakes High School and Terraset Elementary School. This initiative connects high school student-athletes with at-risk elementary school readers, fostering mentorship and personal growth.
Impact
Since its inception, nearly 14,000 students have participated, with over 72,000 books donated, significantly improving reading skills among young readers.
