Our Story

Read Ahead, formerly known as Everybody Wins! New York, was founded in 1991 by Arthur Tannenbaum, a retired textile industry executive. Inspired by the transformative power of reading aloud, Tannenbaum initiated a program that connects adult reading mentors with low-income children in public elementary schools. This initiative began with a simple idea: to leverage corporate resources and talent to foster a love of reading among children. Over the past 27 years, Read Ahead has served over 20,000 students, creating lasting impacts on both the children and the volunteers involved.
