Our Story

Rayo De Esperanza Inc, also known as Rancho De Esperanza, was founded by Mike and Karen Rhea after they felt a divine calling to serve in the Rio Dulce region of Guatemala. Leaving behind their life in St. Petersburg, Florida, they embarked on a journey of faith in 2001, not knowing the challenges and blessings that awaited them.

Upon arriving, they quickly recognized a dire need for healthcare services in the local community. With Karen's nursing background, they established a clinic that operated for five years, providing essential medical care to the sick and hurting. However, it became evident that the local orphanage was failing to meet the needs of vulnerable children, lacking proper care and a foundation in the Gospel.

Driven by compassion and prayer, Mike and Karen envisioned a self-sustaining farm that would serve as a loving home for orphans, offering a Christ-centered atmosphere and vocational training. Through God's provision, they transformed 40 acres of overgrown land into a safe haven for children, where they can grow, learn, and thrive.

Every day at Rancho De Esperanza is a testament to God's faithfulness. The smiles on the children's faces reflect the impact of the community's support and the love that surrounds them. As the organization continues to expand its mission, it remains committed to nurturing these children and preparing them for a brighter future.
