Our Story
The Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh has been the heart of the Jewish community in the region for over four decades. Established in 1984, it began with an ad-hoc committee assessing the need for Jewish family services in Raleigh. This initiative led to the formation of Jewish Community Services in 1985, aimed at promoting healthy family life within the Jewish community of Wake County.
In 1986, the Wake County Jewish Federation was formed, supported by local synagogues and community services. The Federation incorporated in 1987, merging with Jewish Community Services and establishing the Jewish Community Relations Council. By 1991, the Federation had launched the Jewish Community Center Without Walls, making cultural and educational programming accessible to all Jews in Wake County.
In 1994, community leaders purchased land for a Jewish community campus, culminating in the opening of the David R. Kahn Community Campus in 1995, which also introduced Camp JCC, the first Jewish summer camp in Raleigh. The Federation evolved, changing its name in 2000 to better reflect its service area, and expanded its campus in 2004.
Today, the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh continues to thrive, serving not only Raleigh and Cary but also surrounding areas like Apex, Holly Springs, and Wake Forest. The recent renovation of the David R. Kahn Community Campus, including a new Sports Pavilion and soccer fields, showcases the Federation's commitment to fostering a vibrant community.
