Our Story

Raising Readers in Story County originated from an Iowa Stories 2000 project led by Christie Vilsack, focusing on early literacy needs in Ames. The organization has formed partnerships with local libraries and healthcare providers to create impactful literacy programs for children from birth to eight years.

Impact

Through innovative initiatives, Raising Readers in Story County has successfully provided free books during well-child visits and engaged families in dialogic reading. It proudly stands as the first county in the U.S. where all eligible physicians participate in the Reach Out and Read program.
