Our Story
The concept of Raising a Voice emerged from a year-long journey across 150 anti-trafficking organizations in over 20 countries. Founders Will and Katie Boggs witnessed the heartbreaking injustice of sexual exploitation in Thailand and around the globe. In 2016, they established Raising a Voice with a mission to combat human trafficking through gospel-centered community transformation and global outreach.
Today, Raising a Voice operates in Knoxville, Tennessee; Nairobi, Kenya; Kigali, Rwanda; and Buenos Aires, Argentina. The mission remains steadfast: to end human trafficking through community transformation. The local team in Knoxville is dedicated to the East Knoxville community, actively participating in its growth and development.
Raising a Voice facilitates a Women’s Resource Center, providing a safe haven for women to access basic needs, case management, and build healthy relationships with staff and volunteers. The organization aims to create long-term impact through social enterprises, owning two local coffee shops, Likewise Coffee and Cultivate Coffee + Flowers. All proceeds from these coffee shops directly support the initiatives of Raising a Voice.
In Kenya, partners offer educational opportunities for young girls at risk of exploitation. In Rwanda, free education is provided to children to break the cycle of generational poverty. In Argentina, partners run the only faith-based organization that accepts survivors of human trafficking in the country. Raising a Voice continues to work with victims of sexual exploitation, witnessing the healing power of community transformation.
