Our Story
On the 21st night of Ramadan in 1993, Habibe Husain, a Turkish immigrant and mother of three, was inspired to create a charitable organization to assist struggling families in her Bay Area neighborhood. This inspiration led to the establishment of the Rahima Foundation, named after the feminine version of "Ar-Rahim," which means The Compassionate, The Merciful, and The Just. What began as a small effort to help one friend quickly grew into a community initiative, as more families sought assistance and others offered donations. Habibe started collecting food items in her garage, packing grocery boxes, and delivering them to those in need. As the demand grew, so did the support, leading to the registration of the Rahima Foundation as a 501(c)(3) Charitable and Educational Foundation.
