Our Story
The Quahog Bay Conservancy was founded in 2015 by Patrick and Mary Scanlan, driven by their deep connection to Quahog Bay and a commitment to restore its ecosystem. After witnessing the decline in the bay's health, they took action to remove pollutants and improve water quality, leading to the establishment of QBC as a nonprofit organization dedicated to sustainable aquaculture, ecosystem monitoring, and community education.
Impact
QBC has made significant strides in improving water quality, allowing shellfish harvesting to resume after decades of closures. Through initiatives like the removal of outdated septic systems and the introduction of a pump-out boat service, QBC has positively impacted both the local ecosystem and the community.
