Our Story

Founded in 2003 by Katherine Lorenz and Kate Seely, Puente a la Salud Comunitaria began as a grassroots initiative in Oaxaca, Mexico. The organization addresses economic disparity and food security by promoting the cultivation and consumption of amaranth, a nutritious grain native to the region. Through a holistic approach to food sovereignty, Puente collaborates with local communities to enhance nutrition, economic well-being, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Our Impact

Puente has positively impacted the lives of 680 families by implementing regenerative agricultural practices, expanding women-led microbusinesses, and promoting nutritional literacy among children and youth. The organization plays a crucial role in advancing food sovereignty and sustainable local development in Oaxaca, significantly improving the quality of life for many families.
