The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield has a rich history dating back to 1912, when a group of dedicated young women established a library in a local music store. Officially formed in 1966 through the merger of the Smithfield Public Library and the Johnston County Public Library, it has continually evolved to meet the educational and informational needs of the community.
Today, the library provides vital access to educational resources, community programs, and outreach services, including a Bookmobile that reaches those unable to visit the library.
