Transforming Science Education for Underserved Communities

PS Science was established in 2006 as a response to the critical need for early elementary school science education in public schools. Inspired by the impactful teaching of Dr. Selma Sleven at Crossroads School in Santa Monica, PS Science aims to replicate that magic for children in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles. Initially a project of the Crossroads Community Outreach Foundation, PS Science became an independent nonprofit in 2018, continuing its mission to enhance science education where it is needed most.

Making a Lasting Impact

Currently, PS Science partners with 228 classrooms across 17 schools, reaching over 6,000 students and their teachers during the 2022-2023 school year. The program not only educates children but also supports teachers, ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to pursue STEM careers in the future. Remarkably, PS Science 4th graders outperformed the national average in standardized science assessments by 99% in June 2019.
