Our Story
Providence House began in August of 1979 when four Sisters of St. Joseph offered a mother coming out of prison a place to stay and reunite with her young child. Sister Elaine Roulet recognized the urgent need for support among women leaving incarceration, leading to the establishment of a compassionate community focused on non-violence and hospitality. Today, Providence House serves over 600 individuals annually across nine residences, providing refuge for families escaping domestic violence, women facing addiction, and those striving for independence.
