Our Story

In 1963, Johnny Zenoni, a man once lost to alcoholism, found redemption during a life-changing moment in a Columbia city jail. After a transformative encounter with Jesus Christ, he dedicated his life to helping others reclaim theirs. This commitment led to the establishment of Providence Home on a farm in Lexington County, where the mission to minister to men struggling with addiction began with just eight individuals.

Over the decades, Providence Home has faced numerous challenges, including relocating multiple times due to community resistance. However, the unwavering focus on Christ and the mission to support men in recovery remained steadfast. By the mid-1980s, Providence Home found its permanent home on North Main Street, Columbia, where it continues to serve those in need.

Today, Providence Home features new dormitories accommodating 60 men, a dining hall, and a newly dedicated chapel, fulfilling a six-decade dream. The commitment to transitional ministry for men recovering from drugs, alcohol, and incarceration is as strong as ever, providing hope and healing to those who seek it.
