Our Story
The Prospector Theater was founded by Valerie Jensen, inspired by her sister Hope, who was born with Down syndrome. Recognizing the need for meaningful employment for individuals with disabilities, the theater opened its doors in 2014, offering competitive jobs in a first-run movie theater and an online popcorn business.
Impact
Since its inception, the Prospector Theater has employed over 326 individuals, with 75% self-identifying as having a disability. The theater has paid out over $26 million in payroll, providing more than 1 million hours of competitive employment, significantly enhancing the quality of life for its employees and their families.
