Founded in 1986, Project Second Chance, Inc. is dedicated to raising funds and promoting awareness for the free adult literacy program offered by the Contra Costa Public Library. Governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, this organization collaborates closely with library staff to ensure that essential resources are available for tutors and learners.

Project Second Chance provides free, confidential one-on-one instruction in reading, writing, and spelling to adults with literacy skills below a 6th-grade level, helping them achieve their individual literacy-related goals.
