Our Story

Founded in 1977 by Marta Gabre-Tsadick, the first female Senator of Ethiopia, and her husband Demeke Tekle-Wold, Project Mercy began as a response to the urgent needs of African refugees. With the support of American friends Fran and Chuck Dickinson, the organization has evolved over the decades. Since 1993, the focus has shifted to empowering rural communities in Yetebon, Ethiopia, through a holistic approach that addresses education, health, nutrition, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
