Transforming Lives Through Arts Education
Founded in 1994 by Rev. John W. Wimberly, Jr., Project Create emerged from a deep commitment to serve the children of Washington, D.C. Recognizing the need for after-school arts programs at Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School, Project Create began its journey to enrich the lives of local youth. Over the years, the organization has expanded its mission to include children and families experiencing homelessness, collaborating with partners like So Others Might Eat (SOME) and Community of Hope.
In 2003, Project Create became an independent nonprofit, dedicated to providing accessible, professionally-led arts education to at-risk children in D.C. Today, the organization continues to serve underserved neighborhoods, particularly in Wards 7 and 8, through its Community Partnership Programs.
In 2015, Project Create opened its first art studio in Historic Anacostia, and in December 2019, it established a permanent home with a 5,200 square foot building that serves as a creative hub for local students and their families.
