Our Story
Founded in 1967 by Virginia Knouse and a dedicated group of friends, the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) began its mission to combat pet overpopulation through spay and neuter initiatives. Starting with a thrift store, PAWS has grown to include a companion animal shelter and wildlife rehabilitation services, making a significant impact in the community.
Impact
Each year, PAWS Wildlife Center rehabilitates nearly 5,000 mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians, providing critical care to sick, injured, and orphaned animals. Notably, it is one of only two facilities in Washington State authorized to rehabilitate American Black Bears.
Why Donate?
Your donations to PAWS ensure that abandoned, injured, and orphaned animals receive the medical attention they need to heal and find loving homes. Contributions also support vital wildlife rehabilitation efforts and educational programs that promote responsible animal guardianship.
