Our Story
In 1988, a tragic accident involving a student from a special education classroom inspired John Waterman, a dedicated public school teacher in Battle Creek, Michigan, to take action. After witnessing a student severely injured while riding a bicycle without a helmet, John recognized the urgent need for a bike safety program tailored for children with disabilities. This pivotal moment led to the establishment of Programs to Educate All Cyclists (PEAC) in 2004, a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities through cycling.
PEAC has evolved over the years, expanding its mission to empower individuals with disabilities through alternative modes of transportation. The introduction of the Active Transportation Program teaches students essential skills in cycling, walking, and using public transportation, fostering independence and community access.
