Our Story
Founded in 1973 by former Director Iris Carroll, Programs for People, Inc. emerged from a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with mental health issues. Having witnessed the stigmatizing effects of mental health challenges, Iris envisioned a program that would not only address these issues but also celebrate the strengths and abilities of those served. The organization fosters an atmosphere of openness, where staff members are referred to by their first names, promoting a sense of dignity and acceptance.
Programs for People, Inc. offers a variety of services designed to empower individuals to set and achieve their personal goals. The organization emphasizes community integration, ensuring that clients can actively participate in their communities rather than relying solely on the program for support. By establishing a liaison system between mental health facilities, Programs for People, Inc. has facilitated smoother transitions for clients, enhancing their recovery journey.
Recognizing the importance of employment in recovery, the organization launched the Vocational Services program, which provides tailored support to help individuals find and maintain meaningful employment. The commitment to involving families and loved ones in the recovery process further strengthens the support network for clients.
