Our Story

Founded in 1968 in response to the racial and economic disparities faced by the Black community in Pittsburgh, PACE was established by K. Leroy Irvis, Fletcher Byrom, and other community leaders. The organization was created to address the lack of businesses, jobs, and public accommodations for African Americans, evolving over the years to focus on enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of community-based organizations.

Our Impact

PACE aims to foster a more equitable community by empowering individuals and organizations that challenge injustice, particularly in BIPOC communities. The organization has been instrumental in addressing ongoing racial and class inequities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
