Transforming Lives Through the Arts

In the heart of Chicago’s Lawndale community, Michael, a young Black man, faced the harsh realities of violence and trauma. He discovered that arts education could be a powerful tool for healing and growth. After a successful career in professional theatre, Michael co-founded the Professional Theatre and Dance Youth Academy (PTDYA) in 2011 to address the racial disparities in arts access for youth in under-resourced communities. Through after-school and summer programs, PTDYA has become a beacon of hope for many.

Making an Impact

Since its inception, PTDYA has served over 2000 African American students, providing them with professional training in music, theatre, dance, and spoken word. The organization creates a supportive environment where youth can thrive, fostering discipline, confidence, and creative thinking.

Support the Next Generation of Artists

With school fees covering only 20% of program costs, PTDYA relies on private donations to continue its vital work. Your contribution, no matter the size, helps ensure that more students can join the PTDYA family and benefit from transformative arts education.
