Founded in 1977, Pro Portsmouth Inc. emerged from a grassroots initiative aimed at revitalizing Downtown Portsmouth. The first Market Square Day in June 1978 marked the beginning of a vibrant celebration of community, arts, and culture. Over the years, this festival has blossomed, drawing between 60,000 and 80,000 visitors who enjoy a rich tapestry of entertainment, local crafts, and delicious food from Seacoast artisans.

Pro Portsmouth significantly contributes to the Seacoast economy, generating an estimated $3.9 million through its events. The organization has invested over $125,000 in the past five years to compensate local performers and artists, ensuring that the cultural fabric of Portsmouth remains vibrant and thriving.
