Our Story

Prison Pet Partnership (PPP) began in 1981 as a collaboration between Sister Pauline Quinn and Dr. Leo Bustad, focusing on rehabilitation through the human-animal bond. Located at the Washington Corrections Center for Women, PPP provides vocational education for incarcerated individuals, enabling them to earn certifications in pet care and training while rescuing animals from euthanasia.

Our Impact

PPP has successfully placed over 700 dogs as service and therapy animals, achieving a recidivism rate of less than 3%, significantly lower than the state average of 22.2%. This innovative program not only prepares incarcerated individuals for successful reintegration into society but also saves countless animals from shelters.
