About the Prison and Neighborhood Arts-Education Project

The Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project (PNAP) began in 2011 with a vision to provide educational opportunities to incarcerated individuals. Starting with just two classes in Art and Poetry, PNAP has expanded its offerings to include a diverse range of humanities courses and a tuition-free degree program in collaboration with Northeastern Illinois University. This initiative connects teaching artists and scholars with students in prison, breaking down systemic barriers to education.
