The Story of the Princess Theatre
The Princess Theatre opened its doors in 1912 as a vaudeville house, bringing a new world of entertainment to the citizens of Northeast Louisiana. In 1925, silent movies flickered on her screen, accompanied by a hired pianist who brought the films to life. Over the years, the Princess Theatre grew and changed alongside the community, entertaining generations of Franklin Parish residents until 1988, when it closed due to competition from multiplexes. After lying dormant, the theatre was gifted to the citizens of Winnsboro in 1992 and reopened in 1994. Since then, thousands have walked through its doors, experiencing the magic of live performances just as their ancestors did.
