Our Story
The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence was founded to elevate the quality of education in Kentucky. Emerging from the vision of Edward F. Prichard, the Committee transformed from a state government council into a powerful citizens’ advocacy group in 1983. Under the leadership of Bob Sexton, the Committee became a nationally recognized organization, instrumental in the passage of the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990, which set a benchmark for educational reform across the nation. Today, the legacy of Sexton continues as the Committee engages citizens in the mission to improve educational outcomes for all Kentuckians.
