Our Story

The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence was founded to elevate the quality of education in Kentucky. Emerging from the vision of Edward F. Prichard, the Committee transformed from a state government council into a powerful citizens’ advocacy group in 1983. Under the leadership of Bob Sexton, the Committee became a nationally recognized organization, instrumental in the passage of the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990, which set a benchmark for educational reform across the nation. Today, the legacy of Sexton continues as the Committee engages citizens in the mission to improve educational outcomes for all Kentuckians.

Impact

Thanks to the efforts of the Prichard Committee, Kentucky has advanced from the bottom to the middle of national education rankings, with aspirations to reach the top tier within this generation.
