Our Story

Founded in 1997 by Marianne Dunlap, Prairie Flower Montessori School began as a small Parent-Infant Community in her home. As the school flourished, it expanded to include The Toddler Community, allowing children to enjoy their first experiences away from their parents. In 2001, a primary class for children ages 3-6 was established, and in 2002, the school moved to its current location on two-and-a-half acres at 3130 Turpin Road. A significant expansion in 2004 doubled the school's physical size, enhancing the learning environment for all students. After Mrs. Dunlap's retirement in August 2020, Kristine Hansen and Shannon Striglos took on leadership roles, continuing the legacy of quality Montessori education. Licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Prairie Flower Montessori School operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees. The school follows a traditional academic calendar and offers a Montessori summer camp experience for enrolled children and those from other Montessori schools.
