Founded in the 1970s, Practice of Peace Foundation emerged from the urgent need to address homelessness in the Bronx, New York. As the borough faced a devastating decline in housing and economic stability, a group of dedicated residents initiated a movement focused on resilience and mental health support. This grassroots effort laid the groundwork for what would become a transformative organization.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the Bronx encountered escalating challenges, including gentrification and budget cuts that exacerbated the homelessness crisis. In response, Practice of Peace revitalized its mission, emphasizing compassion and innovative solutions to support those in need. A significant milestone occurred in 2018 when the organization secured funding to establish a shelter specifically for LGBTQ individuals, showcasing its commitment to inclusivity.

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Practice of Peace demonstrated remarkable adaptability by expanding its services to include affordable and supportive housing. Today, the organization stands as a beacon of hope, dedicated to providing shelter and support services to individuals experiencing homelessness, including asylum seekers and vulnerable populations.
