Our Story

Potencia Inc. was founded in 2019 by international graduate students at Tufts University, driven by a mission to transform language learning for adults with limited English skills. Recognizing that over 95% of adult English learning needs in Greater Boston and across the U.S. remain unmet, Potencia was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2021. With a dedicated team of tutors from six universities, Potencia has contributed over 1,700 learning hours to empower communities through accessible, flexible, and affordable language education.

Our Impact

Since its inception, Potencia has trained 371 tutors and served 236 learners, providing them with essential English language skills. Remarkably, 75% of learners who completed a semester reported increased confidence in their English communication, while 60% advanced in their careers and education after three semesters.
