Our Story
Portland Piano International was born from the vision of pianist Harold Gray, who initiated a recital series at Portland State University. This series quickly gained popularity, expanding from four to six recitals each season, even as similar programs across the country faced closure. By 1995, the series had added Saturday night recitals to accommodate the growing audience. In 1999, the annual Summer Festival was introduced, featuring a variety of recitals, master classes, lectures, and films. In 2005, Portland Piano International emerged as an independent nonprofit organization, dedicated to continuing the legacy of the PSU Piano Recital Series. Over the years, the organization has welcomed over 190 artists, enriching Portland's cultural landscape and earning acclaim from both local and national media.
