Our Story
Founded in 1867 by Reverend Dr. Anthony Toomer Porter, the Porter-Gaud School has a rich history rooted in compassion and education. After the loss of his son, Dr. Porter dedicated his life to educating children affected by poverty and orphanhood in Charleston. Over the years, the school evolved from an all-boys military academy to a diverse educational institution, merging with the Gaud School and the Watt School in 1964. Today, Porter-Gaud continues to uphold the Episcopal tradition, fostering a community that values the dignity and worth of every individual.
