Protecting the Pomperaug River Watershed

Since 1999, the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition has been dedicated to preserving the Pomperaug River Watershed, a vital resource for drinking water and recreation in the towns of Bethlehem, Woodbury, and Southbury. Founded by concerned residents, including Dr. Marc Taylor, Larry Pond, and Dick Leavenworth, the Coalition emerged in response to the threats posed by land development and potential water diversions. By fostering partnerships with local towns and stakeholders, PRWC has become a leader in scientific research and community engagement.

Impact Through Science and Collaboration

The Coalition employs scientific research to assess the impact of human activities on water quality and availability. This knowledge is shared with the community, empowering residents to take action in safeguarding their most precious resource—water. Through conservation projects, policy initiatives, and educational programs, PRWC works tirelessly to ensure that the Pomperaug Watershed remains vibrant and sustainable for future generations.
