The Story of Pollard Theatre Company
The Pollard Theatre has a rich history dating back to the Land Run of 1889, originally serving as a dry goods store. The current structure, built in 1901, transitioned from a furniture store to a vaudeville theatre in 1919, showcasing live acts and silent films. With renovations in 1929, it became a hub for the latest in entertainment technology. After a period of closure, the Guthrie Arts & Humanities Council restored the venue, enhancing it for live performances and reinstating its original name, the Pollard Theatre. Established in 1982, the Pollard Theatre Company has been a vital part of Oklahoma’s cultural landscape, promoting the arts and boosting tourism in historic Guthrie, the original state capital.
