Pizza Klatch

Our Story

In 2007, a group of dedicated therapists and community leaders in Thurston County, WA, came together in response to a troubling rise in suicides among LGBTQ+ youth. They partnered with the North Thurston School District to establish an after-school support group aimed at providing a safe haven for high school students identifying as LGBTQ+. Although the initial group faced challenges and had to adapt, it transformed into 'Pizza Klatch' in February 2008, offering a confidential space during lunchtime where students could gather, share, and support one another over a slice of pizza. What began in just two schools has now expanded to 14 high schools and one middle school, serving nearly 440 students weekly through 28 klatches.
