Our Story
The Pittston Memorial Library has been a cornerstone of the Greater Pittston community since its establishment in 1952. Originally located on the second floor of City Hall, the library has undergone several transformations to better serve its patrons. In 1984, it became part of the Luzerne County Library System, enhancing access to a wider array of materials and services. A significant milestone occurred in 2001 when benefactor Jean Yates purchased the former Pittston Medical & Emergency Center, donating it to the city for library expansion. After renovations, the library opened its doors at 47 Broad Street, providing a modern space for learning and community engagement. The library's commitment to growth continued with the opening of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Children’s Wing and the John P. Cosgrove Community Room in 2015, further solidifying its role as a vital resource for all ages.
