Our Story

Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company, founded in 2003 by Mark Clayton Southers, is dedicated to producing works by local racially and culturally diverse playwrights. Located in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, this organization nurtures theatre professionals and encourages new talent, especially from marginalized communities.

With over 160 productions focusing on the Black experience, Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company has become a vital space for local artists. The Ground Up Theatre training program formalizes mentorship, uplifting people of color in theatre careers.
