Our Story

PineCone, the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, was founded in 1984 by a group of passionate friends in Raleigh, North Carolina. With a shared love for bluegrass, old-time music, clogging, and square dancing, they aimed to create a vibrant community that celebrates these traditions. Over the years, PineCone has evolved into a 501c3 nonprofit organization with a dedicated professional staff, now serving as a resident company at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts. The organization is renowned for producing Raleigh’s signature festival, IBMA Bluegrass Live! powered by PNC, which attracts over 200,000 attendees annually.

Impact

PineCone's initiatives generate an impressive annual economic impact of $18 million for Wake County, while fostering community through concerts, jam sessions, workshops, and summer camps. This commitment to traditional music not only preserves cultural heritage but also inspires new generations of musicians.
