Founded in 1997, People Helping Others Excel By Example (P.H.O.E.B.E.) began as The Uzuri Project, a vital initiative aimed at documenting the rich African American history of Hot Springs, Arkansas. This grassroots effort, started by five dedicated local citizens, has grown to encompass over 1,500 photographs, artifacts, and oral histories that celebrate the community's diverse narratives. The Uzuri Project continues to evolve, showcasing the stories of remarkable individuals and events that have shaped the African American experience in Hot Springs.
