About Philippines Humanitarian

Founded by Amelia S. Hernandez, Philippines Humanitarian is dedicated to transforming the lives of children in the Philippines through education. After retiring as a high school teacher in 1995, Amelia recognized the profound impact that education could have on lifting families out of poverty. In 2000, she began her mission in Payatas, a community built on an open dumpsite, where she helped find sponsors for 12 students. With the support of her husband, Diosdado, and later her daughter, Imelda, the organization grew, eventually becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2012.

Our Impact

Today, Philippines Humanitarian supports around 250 students, providing them with the educational resources they need to break the cycle of poverty. The organization continues the legacy of Amelia and Diosdado Hernandez, who dedicated their lives to helping others.
