About Philadelphia Outward Bound Center

Founded in 1992 by visionaries Nancy Goldenberg, Tim Greenwood, and Michael Nutter, the Philadelphia Outward Bound Center (POBS) is dedicated to inspiring young people in Philadelphia through transformative outdoor experiences. As a proud satellite of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, POBS has cultivated a strong connection with the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School, enabling it to provide impactful programs across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Northern Delaware.

Our Impact

Over the past 30 years, POBS has reached more than 75,000 students, utilizing outdoor "classrooms" to foster self-confidence and leadership skills. In 2022 alone, POBS served over 8,500 students, marking a record year for the organization. With over 75% of participants coming from low-income families, the need for support is greater than ever.

Why Donate?

Your contribution to POBS is an investment in the future of Philadelphia's youth. Donations help create defining moments for students, educators, veterans, and grieving teens through various programs, from one-day challenges to multi-day expeditions. Every dollar helps provide opportunities for personal growth and leadership development.
