Our Story
Philadelphia Boys’ Gymnastics began in 2003 as the Temple University Boys’ Gymnastics Team, formed to provide a competitive platform for young boys after the termination of nearby programs. The inaugural year also marked the start of the Temple Boys’ Invitational, which evolved into the Philadelphia Boys’ Invitational and later the Fred Turoff Invitational. Training took place at Temple University, where several athletes advanced to collegiate gymnastics.
In 2011, the organization transitioned to Philadelphia Boys’ Gymnastics, becoming a registered nonprofit. After relocating from Temple in 2015, PBG found a new home in Germantown, where it has flourished, currently serving over 75 boys and being the only program in Philadelphia dedicated to training boys for the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program. In 2021, PBG expanded its offerings to include beginner girls’ training, welcoming over 75 girls into the program, along with an adult class for gymnastics enthusiasts.
Under the guidance of Program Director Fred Turoff and a team of dedicated coaches, many of whom are former collegiate athletes, PBG emphasizes that gymnastics can be a lifelong sport. The strong Parents’ Association plays a crucial role in fundraising to support competition costs, ensuring that every athlete has the opportunity to compete, regardless of financial need.
