Our Story

Founded in 1965 by Mrs. Alice Hodges and Mrs. Jean Miller Mahoney, Pets In Need began as the 'Lost Animal Registry' and evolved into a 501(c)(3) animal shelter in 1967. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services to include financial assistance for spaying/neutering, adoptions, and emergency veterinary care. In 2019, it took over the Palo Alto Animal Shelter, providing care for rescued animals across California.

Impact

Since its inception, Pets In Need has rescued and found loving homes for over 10,263 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. The organization focuses on transferring animals from public shelters at risk of euthanasia, ensuring they receive the care they need until they can be adopted.
