In 1996, Ruth Ann Wilkinson's battle with colon cancer inspired the creation of Hope House, a sanctuary for cancer patients during their treatment. In 2004, community members like Mary Collier and Fred Newman united to establish an advisory board, leading to the formation of Gifts of Hope in 2005. This organization has since dedicated itself to supporting cancer patients and their families in the Permian Basin.
Since 2008, Hope House has provided over 10,000 room nights at no cost, serving more than 4,000 cancer patients in the Permian Basin.
