Perinton Food Shelf

Our Story

The Perinton Food Shelf, Inc. was established in 1984 by a coalition of local churches in the Perinton area. This nonprofit organization was created to combat poverty and provide emergency food supplies to families in need within Monroe County, specifically in the zip codes 14450, 14534, and 14526. Initially, food collections were stored at various churches, but as demand grew, a permanent site was established at the Northside Fire Hall, which was later purchased by the Food Shelf. Over the years, the organization has adapted to the changing needs of the community, especially during economic downturns and the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the development of new programs and partnerships.

Our Impact

Each year, the Perinton Food Shelf serves nearly 600 families, providing essential emergency food supplies to those in need. The organization has successfully adapted to increased demand during crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and has shared excess resources with other local food relief organizations, ensuring that no family goes hungry.
