About Penta Medical Recycling

Founded in 2016 by university students, Penta Medical Recycling is dedicated to providing affordable prosthetic care to low- and middle-income countries. The organization addresses the critical issue that 85-95% of the world’s 100 million amputees lack access to proper prosthetic care, while hundreds of thousands of functional prostheses are discarded in the United States each year. By repurposing used prosthetic and orthotic equipment, Penta not only clears clutter from homes and relieves clinics of unusable devices but also restores mobility to amputees worldwide.

Global Impact

Since becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2018, Penta has expanded its operations to 16 countries across 6 regions, collaborating with government health organizations and other nonprofits. In 2022 alone, Penta delivered over 1,800 components, enough to build at least 600 full prosthetic limbs, helping hundreds regain their mobility.
