About Penn Area Library

For over 50 years, the Penn Area Library has been a cornerstone of knowledge and community engagement in Penn Township, Pennsylvania. It began its journey in the home of Mr. Lloyd and later moved to various locations, including the old kindergarten building. In 1972, the library was formally incorporated, and as the community grew, so did its services. The establishment of the Harrison City Reading Center in 1975 marked a significant expansion of library services in the area.

Growth and Expansion

In 1998, recognizing the need for more space, the library board applied for a Keystone Grant, which resulted in a $200,000 award. This funding, combined with contributions from township commissioners, facilitated the construction of a new 9,000 square foot library, significantly enhancing the previous 2,400 square foot space. Today, the Penn Area Library continues to thrive, thanks to the unwavering support of the community, staff, trustees, and local government.
